Mend Maytag SAV4HD Model Making Loud

Maytag washer sav-4hd?

I have a Maytag washer, model sav-4hd, purchased in 2004. It's making a loud squealing sound. It continues to operate properly (so far) but is awful to listen to. Is this a belt or ?.

to determine if the belt is slipping, spin the drum by hand in fast start stop jerking motions. or if you can get to the back, check the tention and adjust the motor to take up slack. as long as you dont over strain the belt, it wont cause any damage to the motor bearings
