Mend MTD 13AQ695G118 Mower Belt Blade

how do i replace a mtd mower deck belt for a 97 42" mtd deck?

I matched a mower deck belt to the closest size. Belt seems too long even with deck down in position. I see only the engine drive shaft pulley and two (2) blade pulleys and the belt seems too long.
Where can I get a diagram for installation of the belt?
The unit is a 97 Mtd model # 13AQ695G118 s/n 1L176H20131

The 'General Utility 5L740' 74" belt from Ace hardware is the one I used. The belt removal/replacement process is on page 21 of the manual. A manual PDF is available at:
