Mend Hotpoint Cooker Control Switches

gas hob?

i have a hotpoint electric cooker with a gas hob ,one of the control switches has gone hard to switch on.do they just pop off so i can put some oil on it or is there some other way of freeing it?

The plastic knob just pulls off Jim,but the tap barrel inside the tap will need greasing so the gas supply has to be turned off to do it
