Mend Zanussi ZTF140 Washing Machine Error Code Repair

Zanussi Jetstream 1400 - E40 error code flashing?

The E40 error code is coming up on the display. My brother was using my washing machine and that code came up. He got the brainwave to empty the filter at the bottom and a load of water came gushing out(not the first time this happened),cleaned the filter,put it back in and got it going again after a while. I think he went back to the original starting time of 2 Hrs 08 Min. With about half an hour left to go in the wash the E40 error message came up again. I looked on this site but was referred to something about "Interlock" but nothing was explained what that is,does or how to fix it. Can anyone clue me in please?

ours just did same. It was door locking mechanism (inside machine, not the door catch) had burnt out. very simple repair.. remove machine lid, open door, 2 screws hold lock cover and the door mechanism, unscrew them, pull out the mechanism 4rom the top, simply unplug the old 1, replace with new 1 (£22). outside chance it could be the board, but try cheaper repair 1st.

We had error code e40. The machine was turned off. Then opened the door and shut it firmly and started the machine and it all worked ok. I guess the interlock did not work correctly first time. Now the machine is working ok.

replacing it is the only option as there is nothing you can see by looking at the part.Be warned that pcbs have been damaged when these fail and will give same fault code after changing the door interlock,so you end up with a door lock and a pcb which can be an expensive repair.not trying to put you off but be aware as i have been caught out

Thanks ck. does it mean i have to replace the mechanism behind it? I took off the gasket and reached in to look but to be honest it didn't look blown or damaged in any way,maybe because I have nothing to compare it to. What do u think?

E40 is an error from the door locking mech (interlock).this is the bit behind the port hole door frame at approx 3 o clock pos,where the door striker pin goes through hole.hope this helps you.held on with 2 screws and you need to remove plastic clamp from door gasket to gain access.hope this helps you.
