Never,ever wait until the dash oil light comes on that is a warning to put oil in as it's past the bottom level mark on the dipstick and could seriously get towards ceasing up. You should check the oil level at least once a month with the engine dipstick.

I assume you haven't checked your oil at all using the dipstick, just relied on this light. Well start learning about the dipstick. It's the level marker on the engine, It's a stick made of metal with a knob on top. You pull it out of it's sleeve and wipe the oil off. You then replace it fully and then pull it out again and check what mark the oil is at. High/low or inbetween? if oil was on the low mark it's reasonably safe to drive to the nearest car spares and get some oil.
Get back home get the car on LEVEL or as level as possible ground ,not on a hill,and let the engine cool down a bit. Remove the filler cap in the centre of the top of the engine, that's where the oil goes.
Remove the dipstick check the level of oil, on bottom mark you'll need about a half pint/litre, don't replace the dipstick until you put some oil in then wait 10-15 secs to allow the oil to get to the sump then dipstick back in fully pull it out check the level,wipe the stick and leave it out unless the level shows just below the high mark, that's where you want to see the level of oil if its at the top mark that's ok replace the dipstick and leave it in. If you're not sure a workshop garage will fill it for you but will charge.
HOWEVER if the oil level is ok then it could be a faulty pressure switch which is making the light come on. That is a garage job.
