i have a 2001 vauxhall astra estate 1.7 dti with the y17dt engine and its smoking a lot with black smoke and holding back a lot on power.
have replaced the turbo & oil cooler & had a head gasket test done which was negative, but the problem is still there, any help and ideas please.

tried fuel cleaners as well and recleaned egr valve yesterday and problem still the same today.
could it be anything to do with the cam positioning sensor as every now and then the engine tone changes and u can hear its coming from the camshaft and then it holds back and black smoke, would this be a possible cause of it.
getting really fed up with the car now and so desperate for help and cant afford to take it to a garage as already spent a lot of money on it.

try a fuel conditioner which may help clean out your fuel system

ive already cleaned the eg valve and flushed out the rad and intercooler and done several engine flushes and water coolant changes but no difference???????

you could try cleaning the egr valve,doesn`t cost anything,under the ecu on top of the engine
