Hello Paula,
If your lights work, but it will not crank--sounds like your Starter is maybe died. Did you have any previous problems starting before this? Sometimes a starter will make a growling sound or different noise when failing.
A lot of cars now have a Park/Neutral Switch in the starting circuit, be sure you're in Park or Neutral and try it again--you may try "giggling" the shift handle a little as you attempt to start.
If you have lights as you stated, your battery may be alright--to be sure have someone watch headlights as you try to start--observe if lights remain "on" or dim as you crank engine, if they dim, your battery does not have enough Amps to engage starter.
There's another area involved-the wiring/electrical portion of the starting circuit. If none of these suggestions do not help. Need to troubleshoot starting circuitry.
Hope this helps some
In Christ,
