Mend Hot Coming Temperature

Clothes come out hot from washing machine?

We moved into a new house but kept our old washing machine. In the new house, the clothes are coming out of the washing machine hot, even though the temperature is set at just 40 degrees. All other settings seem to be as we always had them. Does anyone know what might be causing this to happen?
