Philips Matchline TV not working and red standby light flashing?

My Phillips television set is exhibiting similar behaviour...Model # 34pw9815/17 the lights flash, then turn to amber, then finally green. Now it won't take any comands, either from the remote or the fixed control on the set. suggestions? No picture or sound. Aarrgghh !!!!


BTW-- the hair dryer idea, didn't change things [for me] but thx for the tip.

Hey i found a matchline philips 55 out in the trash in my naborhood and i talked to the guy in my nabor hood that owned it and he could get it to turn on but i got it to turn on i left it pluged in for 4 days and hit the back switch to the lamp one day be bord and it came on!!! But it worked for a half a year and now I see the red flashing light, and im like were you are all at now, Im trying to get this tv on i love it!! Sooo i will try a new bulb soon or find a newer power broad and try that. But How do fix the problem if its not the bulb bec mine doesnt look bad at all. Like is it something on the broad mine doesnt come on now or flash red nothing, but thats what i had wrong with this thing when i got it, i could plug it in and the wall and it turns on that way it werid, i need help anyone?

Philips engineered checked mine out today and just like my cousin said its the transformer which is the problem why these TVs stay on standby and cannot fire up the tube. Its very hard to find a power supply as all philips are different and no common parts. These TVs are reall hard to keep going now. My advise is keep hunting for parts and TVs being thrown out. Otherwise buy yourself old quality Sony Trinitron's which are bulletproof and a steal for pennies today with all the techno zombies and their awful Led/plasma/lcd wannabe televisions from hell

My ten year old son seems to have sorted out our red flashing light issues with our matchline.... hold in the on off button and don't let go so a good thirty seconds. When you do so, it goes to amber rather than red flashing. Before this we had to leave the telly on 24/7 or risk having to take a chance on it not turning on again without thousands of attempts!

I tried the hair dryer my TV came on for approx 5 mins then went off again tried doing same thing again but its gone back to flashing mode :(

The cause is the t.v. has got moisture in it and a built in switch stops it turning on. A quick measure to fix the problem is to use your wifes hairdryer, dont hold it too close to the set just hold it a couple of feet away and blow warm air through the grill for about ten minutes, then switch it on. The red light should fire up first, then the amber, then the green. I have the same problem with moisture in my Philips under the house when the rains come. I hope this solves all your problems. This is exactly what has happened to my Philips Matchline Flat Tv. Everything was fine with the Tv and then one day I tried too turn it on and the green light came on first and then after a couple of seconds the red standby light came on flashing. I have tried everything from un plugging it to removing the scart leads and leaving it off for a week, but still nothing. Does anyone know the problem or better still have a solution. I liked my TV.

Just fixed my Matchline TV, check solderings near High Voltage area on the main circuitboard. Easy fix.
I had a bad connection at transformer 5410

Why don't you take it to a TV repair shop. I can't help you with how to repair your TV of which I have the same model. But the probable cause is that you either left it on standby, or did not disconnect the TV from the wall outlet. ALL CRT TV's should be disconnected from the mains supply when finnished viewing.
Mine is 9 years old the on/of button stopped working years ago. SO I stuck I bit of plastic in it, in the ON position. Put it on standby when I've finished viewing, and remove the plug from the wall. No problems. Great TV.

problem maybe on the "removable card" connected with the flex ribbon...problem is, don't know where to get a replacement for this card. The "surface Mounted' cards seems to supply the driver circuit for the HOT...Horizontal output transistor!

Very simple....Check Power Supply ALL solder connections \\\ Resoldered 5Volt supply transformer and Voila Standby circuits work fine.....TV working for FREE!

I have the same problem. Again, Phillips Matchline, 10 yrs old and after about 5 mins it goes off into stand-by mode and red led blinks fast on the front. Looked everywhere for possible cause but so far nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

I have philips tv model 32pw9545/05, it has the red flashing light & just refuse to come on. We had an engineer who took it away and have told us the parts needs replacing is a signal panel part No: 310432809761.
And I have been trying everywhere to find this part and so far no luck.

GOOD MORNING, I TOO HAVE A PHILIPS MATCHLINE TV. UNLIKE THE ABOVE PROBLEMS STATED RELATING TO THE FLASHING STANDBY LIGHT MY PROBLEM IS QUITE DIFFERENT.
I HAVE NOTICED IN RECENT WEEKS THAT THERE IS A VERY STRONG SMELL OF CHEESE COMING FROM THE UNIT AND I CAN ONLY VIEW IMAGES OF RABBITS. DO YOU KNOW HOW TO RECTIFY THIS ISSUE?

How bizarre, the exact same thing has happened to us and I was looking on line for a solution. The difference with ours is that the TV sometimes works during the day. I thought it might be the "lock" but that seems to be off. I'm going to try and reset to factory settings when it's next works (which it seems to do during the day!). Have you tried it at different times of the day?
