Mend Scotts 42589x8 Riding Mower Engine

Scotts mower dies when i let off the clutch?

i just got a scotts riding mower model # 42589x8 It starts and runs fine as long as i have the clutch pressed in, As soon as i let go of the clutch it dies... Any ideas its got the 16 hp kholer motor on it
