How do I repair/reset the immobiliser on my Pugeot 405 diesel?

How do I repair/reset the immobiliser on my Pugeot 405 diesel?
Was working OK but the car battery has been out for several months. When I enter the code the gren light comes on but the red light stays on too. Engine turns but wont fire. Immobiliser does not "beep" so I assume it still regognises the code. Help!

Just to say that the above RAC trick actually works! Thanks!

This has just happened to me and the nice man from the RAC fixed by doing the following
1. Sit in drivers seat with all doors, bonnet, etc, closed.
2. turn ignition key so everything is ready to start but do not start engine.
3. sit in situ for 4 minutes without operating any electrical equipment.
4. turn engine off and open and close drivers door
5 turn ignition key so everything is ready to start but do not start engine.
6. sit in situ for 90 seconds without operating any electrical equipment.
7. enter your keycode and start engine

according to the RAC chap this resets the immobiliser, it solved my problem anyhow.

I'm not too sure if this will help, but I think if you take the small silver key for the alarm thats with your car key then pop the bonet and on the side of the battery small black plastic assembly with a cover. When you remove the cover you see the key hole for the silver key. This is for disabling the alarm but I think it can also be used to deactivate or reset the immobiliser. I sudjest turning it off completely then starting the car. If the car starts and you want to reenable the alarm and imobiliser but it then gives you grief again then there's possibly a fuse shorted or broken. As far as I can remenber there may also be 2 fuses contained in that black plastic assmebly.... Best of Luck
