Brand new sewing machine wont sew!?

I have bought a sewing machine- having not used one for years.... I have re threaded the macine numerous times, and it still just makes needle holes on the fabric, it doesnt actually make any stiches?! what am i doing wrong? I know the machine works as there was a small sample piece of fabric, which i continued to sew on... I then decided to change the colour of the hread and now it wont work! please help!

Hello Victoria,
Because there was a test sample it does not mean that the machine will still sew, it could have quite easily gone out of time at the end of the person sewing the sample, if it is not picking up the thread at all it will be a timing problem, take it back whilst it is still in warranty, you don't want to have to start repairing the machine at this stage.
