FORD MONDEO RUNNING LUMPY/WARNING LIGHT?

Hi. I have a 2001 Mondeo estate, 1.8LX and have a problem. Whilst driving yesterday, the car went lumpy with acceleration only on an intermittent basis. The fuel gauge went a bit haywire (up and down) and the engine managment light is now on. The car drives but drives awfully- sometimes tries to cut out (shakes on low revs) and accelaration can be random.
