dimmer switch does not switch lights off?

fitted a new dimmer switch to light 3 x 40 w bulbs.worked at first but now switch will not dim or switch the lights off.
dimmer states en60669-2-1 60-250e 200-24v

Think roger meant was '...and has burnt out.'

The dimmer switch you have is rated at 24V and if connected to 240V it will not survive

It might be the fact that the switch has been fitted in the mains side ie 240 volt and has not burnt out
