Mend Peugeot 406 1.8 Engine Changed Battery

Peugeot engine does not turn off?

Hi,

I have a Peugeot 406 1.8 petrol 1998 model. I changed the battery few days ago but it has developed a strange problem.
Now when I switch off the ignition, the engine does not turn off. Does anyone know why it is behaving like this? Any help will be appreciated

suggestion: small rotary switch at the base ot the ignition key has softened and is not rotating back to off position with the turning of the key.......replace! common fault in older Pugs
