Mend Renault Laguna 2003

What is causes rapid clickng on my Renault Laguna?

I have a 2003 Renault Laguna 1.8 petrol hatchback which is making rapid clicking noise when trying to start the engine, AA came out and said it was the battery which was changed but same fault has happened again, when leaving car an hour or so it usually starts, any idea what this could be?
