Mend Rover Vitesse Turbo Petrol Start Starts

rover vittess turbo petrol will start but cuts out when you rev/up?

it starts when cold fine but when wormed up it starts to splutter. when trying to move away engaging gear and drive away it wont it cuts out completly and wont start again until its cold again. sorry i didn;t mention its a m reg 1995

On top of the engine exhaust manifold there is an "EGR" or exhaust gas recirculating valve. sounds like this has stuck or the spirng has broken.
