My car alarm wont go off but red light blinks?

My car alarm wont go off when im in the and i press the botton on my remote i can hear a click sound like it wants to set but wont i bought the car like this i can see the red light blink if i turn the key on and of three times i can her the alarm beep once so i know the alarm works i think its the remote could the battery in my remote be to dull to set it off only thing is i can see the light on my remote when i press the botton so the is juice in the battery but maybe not enough what can i do?
