Mend Tv 20 Picture

do i need a technician?

i have a 42" hitatchi plasma tv that is 20 months old. It went off last week and the picture we get is a purple screen showing no signal.
It is not the sky box or tv ariel as my portable tv works fine.
Each person i ring advises me not to fix it and buy a new one.
It cost me 1700 pounds only two years ago can u recommend anyone or any sugestions.

call your home insurance people and tell them you were decorating the room and had to move the tv , then you accidently dropped it and since then it doesnt work . then let them pay for new one

Although you should contact the dealer who supplied the Plasma TV first, it will help them to help you if you also contact Hitachi customer support and explain the problem.

Major manufacturer's are sympathetic to cases of early failure of Plasma & LCD TV's just outside the warranty and will often pay part or all of the repair cost.

Usually, the manufacturer will not allow a dealer to register a complaint on the customers behalf, you must do this yourself.

So get the ball rolling with the manufacturer after contacting the dealer.

A Plasma TV should last about five years. Anything less than that is not acceptable. No matter what warranty you got it does not over-ride the various Sale of Goods Acts and Supply of Goods and Services Act.

Which advise people to go back to where they bought the set and demand that they fix it free of charge as it should last longer than twenty months! The only get out that the vendor has is to ask you to prove that it was faulty when you bought it. (Which they are entitled to do after six months but don't tell them that.)

If the vendor sticks to his/her guns and refuses to repair it foc then threaten that you will get an independent repairer to look inside, find out what is wrong and you will bill them for that in addition to the repair. Be prepared to do this but I would for seventeen hundred quids worth of kit!
