the 5th gear selector hub and synchro need to be replace as the slector ring is worn out and this is causing the gearbox to jump out of gear

Hey Cookey, I've just taken my MK3 to a garage with the same problem - if they quote me some stupid amount I'll take it to your specialist. Can you tell me what garage it was?

Guys, it's on the way out. It's a very common problem with VW golfs and it's going to cost an arm and a leg to fix. Just type in VW Gearbox problem into google and you will see the damage.

i had the exact same problem jumping out of fifth gear it was the fith gear selector had to go to a gear box specialist cost just short off 100 pound like to sort it out
