XDA2S screen seems to seize when turned on?

i have an XDA 2s which really has never been used but when i try to turn it on i can't seem to get a a clear screen. I get the windows logo & it then seems to go fuzzy! I was going to send it to an O2 repair centre bu they wanted to charge me a lot of money with no gurantee of fixing it
