check jumper settings on cdrw normally slave.if two drives on ribbon make sure 1 is master and 1 is slave.if both are on primery ribbon hdd should be master.

check on the connectors check on the pin settings on the back of the drive make sure you have this pin set to master or slave if is another drive on present check on motherboard
drivers most like it when this happened the drive is bad but thisis some of the things that you can check on
