Internet Explorer super slow at startup?

When I start Internet explorer it takes every bit of 10 minutes to start and open my home page. Once I'm in I can move about fairly easily and painlessly. I've tried everything I know to try. I've even went so far as to re-install the program. I've check for spyware and viruses, I've even checked to make certain that the {format documents using my style sheet} was unchecked under tools. I have a DSL hookup and Netscape works really well...so it has to be in IE...doesn't it? I've searched the net high and low for an answer but haven't had any luck. Running XP SP2 on a newer HP. Can anyone help?

HP Computers, Virus Removal Slow Takes Minutes

Tried all of those options, and none altered the start-up open at all. Tried CHROME for a bit and it opened super-fast, but I just do not want to use that one (not all of my sites work with it). the same problem happens with any of the I.E. versions, too. This whole slow start-up just happened about two months ago and I cannot track down what changed.

I had the same problem, and spent days trying to fix it. Go to Internet Options / Settings / Connections. Unclick the box that says,
"Automatically Detect Settings" Do the same thing in your LAN settings too. Problem solved!

Yep, Internet Explorer fired up instantly again after your advice to uninstall the Google Toolbar using the Add or Remove programmes. Thanks heaps !!!

I found simply resetting Internet Explorer fixed this issue. To reset Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options. Then, under the Advanced tab, in the "Reset Internet Explorer settings", hit the button labled "Reset..."

I followed the advice to remove google bar and the problem seems to be solved ... thank you so much... frustration dissolved!!

I had the same problem. It worked fine when I removed the Google toolbar also.

I had 2 computers pop up suddenly with this problem. Couldn't find any answers online, so I removed the google toolbar using "Add/Remove Programs". That solved the issue. Even after downloading the new toolbar, everything works great.

there could be loads of reasons why its doing it
here is a few reasons

1.when your starting the computer msn (etc) opens all at once and your trying to open the internet browser and the same time

answer: disable everything from loading up at startup (Except) anti virus firewall

2.you may need to run a disk clean up

answer: your computer may not have enough disk space left

3. you could have a viruses close everything and open anti viruses and do a scan
