Scantronic 9800+ displays "- -" only?

Our daughter set the alarm off and had forgotten the code to turn it off. On returning, my wife keyed in the access code. Since then the display shows "- -" and beeps when pressing any button. It has stayed this way for over a week.

From reading the manual, it appears this is a transit state where some entry is expected - but what?

Any ideas?
