how can i fix my john deere lx 173?

I have a John Deer LX 173 mowing tractor. It has a new battery. It ran fine last year. It acts like it wants to start but it won't. It will run for just a second and quit. It acts like it's not getting gas. Could it be a spark plug? Also, I found a hose under the seat that was loose but I didn't know if it was just laying there or if it's suppose to be connected. There is a hose connected to the fuel part. It's clamped on and I see gas. I'm a divorced female and I can usually get it going every year but this year I can't. Please help! Thanks! Cherie, WV

Check and charge the battery. Mine died. Sometimes the PTO gets bumped on too. Make sure that is off.

If the battery is charged and the PTO is off the seat safety switch might be shot.
