how can i get my electric starter to work on my gilera dna 50?

the electric strter has never wrked since i purchased my gilera dna 50 a couple of months ago,although the kick start still does work i am eager to get the electric strter to work.i have tried replacing the spark plug bt nothing happened.i would be very appreciative if somebody could give me some tips to remedy this problem
