Mend Volvo S40 Ideas Gear Reverse

volvo gears?

any ideas on why my volvo s40 has trouble engaging 1st gear also i am having trouble with reverse. gear lever feels like it has gone in but ends up in first gear

I have the same problem with my S40. a mechanic i know looked and said it was the bush being worn in the end of the linkage that attaches to the arm from the gearbox. looking at it there is a lot of play in the joint, I have bought the part was about £6 looks really easy to fit but just havent had the chance yet.

most likely then gear linkage has worn/cracked. engine/gearbox mounts would be my 2nd guess
