possibly clutch not clearing fully,if you put it in a forward gear first it may engage smoothly,[forward gears are syncrho but reverse isnt].if it does then clutch plate could be sticking on gearbox input shaft splines. sometimes if you wait a few moments before selecting reverse you may find it goes in smoothly.
