How do I stop the squeking sound when the washer is adjetating?

My Hot Point washer squeks when it starts adjetating. The pitch changes with the direction of the adjetator. Can you please tell me where I can find trouble shooting tips for this symptom. Thank for your time. A single mom buried in laundry....
