Vokera Maxin 28e boiler problems?

I have a Vokera Maxin 28e combi boiler. For months now, there has been a long delay getting hot water from running the tap to the water getting hot. It is not so bad when the heating is on so I have managed over the winter because the heating is on from first thing in the morning till last thing at night. However now it is getting warmer we are having to sweat and waste energy by having the heating on in order to get hot water. If the water has just been running hot then it may only take up to 5 minutes to run hot again but if the system is cold then it can take up to 15 minutes (and getting longer).

My heating engineer ordered up a new fan. This did not fix the problem. He then ordered up an air pressure switch but this has not worked either. He has now asked me to order an ignition control box. He is not trying to rip me off as he only charged us £20 to fit the fan and pressure switch (which I purchased myself online at a cost of £150). I just thought I would try to find out if this will definitely fix the problem before I waste more money as I would rather replace the whole boiler as it is breaking my heart to throw money away when nobody can guarantee what exactly will fix the problem.

When you run the tap you can hear something click on (the fan?) but the boiler is reluctant to ignite the burner.

Thanks

It is most likely the diaphragm or the three port diverter valve. I have boiler insurance so get mine fixed for free, they usually come round & change the diaphragm 2 or 3 times at 3 monthly intervals before they listen to me, once they service the diverter valve it’s usually good for 2 or 3 years. (I suspect that sticking diverter valve damages the diaphragm).

the hot water hydrolics need an overhaul
you may also need a new diaphram

was called to sort of same problem. I found the hot water flow switch diaphragm had a hole in and was not activating the micro switch.
Get him to look at that. That would be why it is not firing up as soon as you turn hot tap on.

So you think you have fan/air pressure switch problems. Google 'Vokera flue Venturi'. Small amounts of dirt on the flue Venturi also give rise to the differential air pressure switch not working reliably. Download the manual from the Vokera web site, find the venturi (page 2, connected by silicone tubes to the APS)and suggest to your gas man that he might try extracting the venturi from the hood and giving it a very thorough clean with a small needle file to remove any encrustations/dirt. May do the trick. Your gas man might try connecting a multimeter (careful, mains volts) across the APS to monitor operation/verify the problem.

The Venturi/fan/heat exchanger should all be properly cleaned in a regular service. If cleaning the venturi does not help he could try phoning Vokera's technical help line for free advice before ordering the ignition control box.

Its well worth getting a Vokera specialist to do the regular service of your boiler, as he will know all the quirks of the make/model.
