How do I fix my Whirlpool AWZ-650 Condenser dryer?

Hi,
My whirlpool condenser dryer has stopped working. The filter light is constantly on, it spins but there is no heat and it is not drying the clothes. The filter is clean I have checked, but other than that i have no idea.. I was going to call whirlpool but not sure how much they cost.!!

Any ideas much appreciated.!!!!

I'd just like to cover my ass. Attempting repairs can be dangerous. If in doubt dont attempt to repair an item yourself. In many instances work should only be carried out by a qualified professional.

I'd just like to confirm what the Whirlpool engineer has already said. Exactly the same problem. Filter light on, no heat when tumbling. Changing the thermostats turned out to be quite an easy job. Remove the back, and the tstats are the 2x white 1cm long cylinders held against the heating element. Bring one along to your local electrical spares shop, and theyll sell you 2xreplacements (£30!!!!). While you have the back off, it might be worth removing the plate over the back of the heating element, and removing any 'fluff' which may have built up around the heating element over the years.

This is caused by a faulty tstat on the heater.

Hi Claire,
Well isn't that strange? I've got the same problem, except that the filter light doesn't come on.
I stripped down the machine and found that the filter switch was faulty (open circuit). In the absence of a replacement I have shorted out the switch until I can get a new one (don't try this at home!).
So Claire, I suggest that you (or an engineer) check the filter switch. You will have to remove the bottom front cover to access it, by removing the cover over the condenser and then removing three screws. GOOD LUCK!
