How do I put the fan belt back on for a Ford Falcon 96?

I have XH falcon..Had to change power steering pump..could not figure how to release fan belt to make it slack... In the old days alternator was the tentioner..Eventually discovered fan belt is spring loaded. Grab the fan belt pull it upwards hard you will find it springs back. Its spring loaded. This is what we did.. Gently levered off the belt from the power steering pully by levering the pully around as you lever the belt off. Before you do it have a good look around so you know the map of the belt before it comes off; so you know how to put it back. Put the belt back on in the reverse order. This worked fine, all went well car is perfect. We had no workshop manual never did the job before. If its not how they do it at the service station Iwould not be surprised and care even less. Hope this has been some help because you can change a belt in the same way but u must remember the way it goes its quite a complicated route around the pulleys
