VW Golf MK2 Heater Matrix?

yeah this is not an easy job and basically involves removing the centre consul. As the other answer says, VW did offer a free modification as they knew this was common problem on the mk2, but I doubt they would replace a leaking one FOC. Their modification was a preventative measure which involved fitting a metal valve onto one of the 2 hoses leading to the matrix at the bulkhead. It may still be worth giving your local VW garage a call though to see what they say, you might strike lucky. Good luck

Has the matrix failed?

If so, contact a VW dealer with the VIN. Srs 2 Golfs, Jettas etc were all subjuct to a safety recall for a modification to prevent this happening. If yours has not been modified, but is in the recall range, you may, even now, be able to get it replaced at no charge, and the modification fitted.

Its not easy even for a decent mechanic to do, takes about 3 to 4 hours if your good at it, you need to remove the gear lever gator and then the center consoul and a haynes manual from there on cos its a git to explain it all on here.
