Whenever I switch the hot water on, even with the heating switched off, all the radiators come on too. I control it by turning off the radiators individually, but this doesn't seem like a good long-term solution. From reading some other questions it looks like it might be a 3-way valve? Is this correct? If so, who should I contact to fix it - a plumber/electrician/corgi?

valve is about £50-80 depending on what one you have, + labour say 2 hour depending on rates up north £130-200 max

Is this kind of thing normally expensive to fix?

a plumber. if your system is cold and you turn just your water on once boiler is running if you feel both pipes on either side of the valve and they are both hot ,your valve is not shutting the heating off fully. the rubber ball inside wear.
