Hoover performa 900 omits spark from rear and trips fuse box?

Has anyone had the same or similar problem with their washing machine? it starts a cycle then 5 minutes into it it omits a large spark and quite loud popping noise which causes my circuit breaker to trip.
Could it be the brushes in the motor causing this? any help would really be appretiated.
