Mend Craftsman 917.272761 Model Wont

I have a Craftsman 18HP Model #917.272761, transmission won't engage?

This mower was not misused, and I didn't run over anything. We put the mower away for the season with the free wheel pulled out (transmission disengaged). Now the level won't go in resulting in the transmission not be able to engage.

Same problem. Make sure the lever is pushed all the way in. I had to take off the seat of the mower and use channel locks to turn the square nut that the plunger rod connects to the free it up. Works great now. Also check the belt that drives the trans. That happened to me also.

Check the linkage to the shifter post - may be loose - if not the shifter selector inside the trans could be broken or striped. Go to google click "your lube" for the cd trans repair on line. Good luck

We have the same problem, We disassembled the transaxle and found a stuck hydralic plunger, We have it freed up now and am trying to find out what type of fluid and how much goes in!!!!! Can't find any spec's on this thing!
