It sounds like the inverter tube or board has gone bad.
Check all the capacitators on the board and change anyone that looks a bit fishy (Not flat on the top or leaking).
Or go to www.lcdparts.com and by a replacement board.
The inverter delivers power to the tube wich illuminates the screen. If you can se something on the screen when you look really closely it is probably the tube it self.
As always, remeber that it is live current operated system that you are working with and if you are unsure, take it to a repair shop.
