How do I adjust recorder to recognize disc when inserted?

have jvc drmv150b dvd/vcr recorder.it does not recognize dvd disc when inserted

Take off top cover.Next take off plastic lid . There you will see a lazer that reads your dvd.Clean this with alcohol and a q-tip. Do not rub hard, and only twics. Be very careful when doing this. Also look for the lazer to flash red.It does this to find begining of dvd.. After that should be lite all the time. If not then it needs to be replace.
