Mend Singer 5050 Bobbin Stitch Thread

my sewing is leaving no stitch only holes?

I have a singer 5050 sewing machine I thread it and place the bob in and everything .It took a bit to get the bob to take the thread up the hole.But now its not sewing but only the first stitch.Help please!!

we have an old singer [model 237] which we seldom use. it, too, will not stitch or drops many stitches. by loosening the bobin tension all the way & adjusting the thread tension accordingly it sort of works good enough. but obviously something is wrong. been brought for repair twice to no avail.
