how can i fix remote locking?

similar to my problem... 95 nissan pathfinder. factory installed alarm, light is steady blinking in the off postion, will not reset. remote does not work(new batteries installed). 2 buttons on the remote, one for lock, one for ?(it has a light symbol or is that a horn symbol) *yes i'm blonde and female*
the battery on the car was just changed, and the problem seems to have started then although the remote had been acting up

any ideas to help would be appreciated

how many buttons on the remote key ???
does the ctl locking work ok ??
does the car have factory fitted alarm ??
