Whirlpool Washer - Basket not balanced?

Washing machine acts like it is not balanced - whole tub shakes but the clothes are not unbalanced. The whole basket seems to have tooo much play in it.

Sounds like bearing wear in the main shaft. This is usually is accompanied with a small water leak from the rear of the machine (from behind the main belt wheel) this is where the shaft goes through to the drum.
