How do I get the video channel on my Admiral TV?

I have an older model Admiral TV and have hooked a JVC DVD player to it. I need to get to the Video channel but when I push the TV/Video button all I get is a black screen. What can I do to be able to watch DVD's? I have a satellite box on this TV. I am using the satellite box remote.

I have the DVD hooked up to the TV but I don't understand what you mean by the AV on the remote? (Can you tell I am technically challenged!!!!) Thanks

connect the dvd to the AV input jacks at the rear of the TV, then select that AV input on the remote. see if it works.
