06 Peugeot 206 sw oil level gauge flashing oil warning and stop light on?

He I bought a 2006 Peugeot 206 sw 2 weeks ago on sunday I noticed the oil pressure gauge on the dash was displaying an oil level gauge fault ie: ------ six underscores flashing with no 'min' lit up. At the same time approx 5 secs after starting the engine the oil warning light comes on the car bleeps and the stop word illuminates and flashes.
Yesterday I changed the oil pressure switch(located on the oil filter base) but this hasn't fixed or changed the fault.
When checked with the dipstick the oil is at the top level and quite clean .... apparantly the car was serviced 3 weeks ago.

I'd really appreciate any info on what this could be and what I should try next :( only a week and a half old (to me) and I can't afford another.

Peugeot Peugeot 206 Vehicles, Cars 206 Warning Light

Not sure on these but if you have any wiring connectors on the sump then it is a good chance it is for that reason,good luck.

Hi cdc thanks. I tried resetting the service time but no change. Do you know we're the oil level sensor is located?

It may be signifying it needs a service and just needs reset,try holding the offside button in on the dash binnacle,turn ignition on and see if it counts down to zero,if not then a suitable code reader/computer would be the way to go.
