Mend Whirlpool AWE3761/5 Wire Top Box

broken wire on top of soap box?

Having removed the lid on my washing machine,I am looking at the top of the soap dispenser, there is a wire which is broken that should be attached to a spring operated plastic thing. When the washer fills water comes through the soap box front and onto the floor. As this wire and plastic thing anything to do with this. I await your thoughts on this. Thee washer is a Whirlpool 6th sense A WE 3761/5
