Albert - is this really a problem? Does the machine actually wash the clothes?

On my washing machine I do not become aware of water entering until I see it through the window - a few seconds after pressing the start button. I suspect the water starts to enter as soon as I press go - I just don't see it to begin with.

Stick a wooden spoon on the machine - put it against your ear in the manner of a stethoscope and listen - you will hear the water coming in.

I think you report a feature of the machine rather than a fault.

WHat happens when you turn on the machine? The first thing is the door locks. This is often by a heater and bimetal actuator (means the door stays locked for a while even if power goes off - makes certain the drum has stopped if it was spinning at the time)

Yours may be taking a while to engage. Possibly that's how it was meant to be, possibly it is deteriorating.

If you had told us the make and model maybne we could have done some more research (like YOU should have done anyway) and been a bit more forthcoming.
