Mend Running Gas Ago

Furnace not running. What to check?

This season, the gas furnace is not running. It has never been serviced since new about 12 years ago. T-stat set to auto and heat, nothing run. When switched to from auto to on, fan runs but no heat as if burner is working. So I assume it's the furnace and not the thermostat. What should I check? Thanks.
