Morphy richards steam elite 330002 pumps water back into the tank?

Please help. My morphy richards 330002 pumps water back into the tank and only a small amount manages to get into the boiler. It's less than a week old but brought off ebay so no MR warranty. There are no blockages that I can find, I can pour water directly into the boiler through the pipe, it's almost like the pressure valve between the pump and boiler won't open but if I adjust the screw on the bottom, all that happens is steam blows out of the base, so it looks like that works? Confused is an understatement but then so where the MR engineers when I finally managed to speak to one. Any help would be great or it might become a target at the end of the garden
