Mend Craftsman Eager 6.75 Running Mower Start

How do I keep my Crafstman Eager 6.75 running?

My Craftsman 6.75hp mower will only start if I spray starter fluid in the air intake. It will only stay running if I close off the intake (and then only for a couple of minutes). It is like it is either getting too much air or not enough fuel. What can I do to keep it running?
