First things first: I have a Champion Mower circa2003
(domestic garden version) with a helpline tel. no. sticker on it:- 01889 566183. Champion mowers were originally marketed through Focus.
Second, mine has a 3.75hp Briggs and Stratton engine with no throttle control. Bought from new it never had a throttle control and the throttle lever on the carb.was bent over in such a way as to maintain a fixed rate of engine revs. The reason for not having a throttle was because you have to let go of the engine brake lever whilst emptying the grassbox, which stops the engine (Elf-n safety feature), so they never saw the reason to allow the engine to have any throttle movement.
Having said that if it is a b&s engine it is exactly the same as the manual throttle version and may even have the cable clamp in the side of the engine cover so it could be easily converted to manual engine control with a friction lever and cable.
Beware, leaving such a mower running whilst you leave it unattended creates a risk to curious young persons feet when they stand too close to the mower deck as the blade will still be spinning-hence the reason for the 'dead mans' engine brake lever.
