How to change the element in psp206e steam press?

the press has stopped heating . I have a new element from China. How do I access the element which is in the "lid" part of the press. There are clips folding the lid together, seen around its outer circumference but I cannot " unclip" these to access the element. It's a grande press psp206e steam press. It stopped heating when the lid popped open expectedly , which was rather violent- it jumped 2 inches in the air. All other electrics are working , lights beeps, etc , just not heating .
